Tristan Sharp, acting director of the Newcastle Art Gallery, told the Newcastle Herald last week "the new Newcastle Art Gallery will enhance the already substantial cultural landscape of this city and contribute to the economy and the reputation of Newcastle as one of the most preferred places to live and work in the country."
Transformation of the 35 year old gallery has already begun this week, starting with the removal of the art pavillion adjacent to Darby Street. As the detailed documentation is finalised over the coming weeks, the area surrounding the gallery will start to transform, and hints of the gallery collection will emerge.
