A founding principal of Smith & Tzannes, Peter has been actively involved in architecture and the urban planning for over 15 years.
Peter brings to projects the advantage of having been on ‘both sides of the fence’. With experience in private practice, local and state government, he brings incredible knowledge and experience on detailed planning and policy advice and a political acumen to ensure a smooth process for your project.
Peter held the position for 3 years of Manager, Projects and Public Domain at Kogarah Council, where he was responsible for the design and implementation of the public domain and principal capital projects within the Kogarah Municipality, including the design and project management of Kogarah Town Square. During this time he consulted to the Urban Planning Unit to develop policy, development control plans and provided urban design and architectural advice and established the Design Review Panel.
Prior to Kogarah Council, Peter was Design Architect at Allen Jack + Cottier for seven years, where he was responsible for leading teams in medium density residential development (over 900 apartments) urban design and master planning projects.
Peter is well known within the field of sustainable medium density architecture, and urban planning. He is regularly invited to talks at conferences and seminars on planning reform, design and sustainability. He was a part-time lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney in Thermal and Environmental Design within the Architecture program from 2000-2009 and has tutored at the University of Technology, Sydney and University of Sydney.
Peter brings an in-depth knowledge of the operations within a Local Government structure, architecture, planning policy, urban design, and sustainable development, including passive energy systems and water sensitive urban design to STZ's projects.
